Pat Fields Celebrates 40 Years with CCCC

By Christina Aguirre, CCCC Program Services Director |

In March of 2021, Clackamas County Children’s Commission celebrated Pat Fields for 40 years of dedicated service in supporting the growth of healthy children and families, positive parenting, and school readiness. In honoring her commitment and incredible career, we asked staff to tell us some of their favorite things about working with Pat. Words consistently used to describe her included kind, knowledgeable, passionate, and sincere. Many staff also commented on her infectious laugh and how much fun she is to be around – for adults and children alike!

We asked Pat to tell us about her journey at CCCC. Here’s what she had to say:

“My first experience was as a parent in the program with both of my children. When I walked through the door to volunteer in the classroom I knew then this was where I wanted to be and work.

My first position was in the kitchen as the nutritional aide. I held many positions: Bus Driver, Teacher Assistant, Teacher, Home Visitor, Education Coordinator, Education Director, and now Disability Specialist.

Working with the children has been a joy in my life. Watching them grow and learn has filled my heart. The smiles and laughter I have heard over the years will fill my memories. I am not saying this was an easy journey, though it has been a fulfilling one.

During the years a few of the kids who became parents remembered me, which amazed me. I never thought in my wildest dreams that someone so small would remember my name 20 years later. It is amazing – the impact we have in the children’s and families’ lives. I know for a fact that Head Start changes the lives of the families we work with.

This program changed my life. I will be forever grateful for the years I have been allowed to be an employee for such a dynamic program. “

We are grateful to YOU, Pat, for sharing your warmth, skill, and genuine passion for children and families with the Clackamas County community for more than 40 years.
