Through generous support from Lithia Subaru of Oregon City’s “Share the Love” program last winter, Clackamas County Children’s Commission (aka ClackCoKids) started a “Kicks for ClackCoKids” campaign – offering a new pair of shoes to every enrolled child. In addition, funding was also provided by Fred Meyer and the Milwaukie High School Community 101 Grant to help expand the reach of the campaign.

The event “kicked off” this past September, with special ‘shopping nights’ hosted for enrolled families by four local Fred Meyer stores: Oregon City, Sandy, Oak Grove, and Canby. Families joined home visiting staff to pick out new shoes for their enrolled children. A few families were even able to pick out baby shoes for little ones on the way! Small-group shopping appointments were also provided by home visitors to ensure every family had access to the opportunity.

To date 435 children have received a new pair of shoes, but we’re not done yet! We are purchasing roughly 450 pairs of new rainboots to continue to ensure that every enrolled child gets their new pair of shoes this year.
