ClackCoKids Celebrates 50 Years with a Special Community Event

By Natalie Hornstein, Community Engagement Manager |

Since 1973, ClackCoKids has been at the forefront of advocacy for children and families in our community. Now we need support to expand services to Clackamas County’s most vulnerable populations, and we are kicking off the next 50 years of service by hosting a community engagement event in October called “Chairs for Children”.

We chose “Chairs for Children” as our theme because every little seat in our classrooms holds big stories of the children and families that have grown with us throughout the years. As a tribute, our live auction will showcase the work of local artists who have created artistic interpretations of their favorite childhood stories, using retired wooden chairs from our early program days. It will be a night of inspiration, great food, excellent wine, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and most importantly…FUN!

On June 28th, 1973, Clackamas County Children’s Commission was recorded as a non-profit “to act as an advocate on behalf of the children of Clackamas County by ascertaining the needs of children, securing the provision of services to meet those needs, and coordinating all existing and potential resources relating to child development in Clackamas County and to establish a comprehensive community children’s information and management system.” Over the years we have continuously strived to provide excellent early childhood services to families in need through our Head Start, Early Head Start, and Healthy Families Programs.
